BackgroundNon-receptor tyrosine kinase vital for cell processes including growth, development, and immunity. Associates with receptors like growth hormone, interleukins, and interferons, leading to tyrosine phosphorylation of cytoplasmic receptor tails. This creates docking sites for STATs proteins, which, upon phosphorylation, form dimers and enter the nucleus to activate gene transcription. For instance, during erythropoiesis, JAK2 phosphorylates and activates STAT5, which promotes essential erythropoiesis genes. Also phosphorylates histone H3, impacting chromatin.
